A first year (?) Ampeg amp walks in the store one day…

This amp was originally purchased in 1949 or 1950 by an upright bassist who had  recently purchased the Ampeg bass pickup system.  (The mic was attached to the peg of the amp…thus, “amp peg.”)  From what we can tell, this is the very first amplifier ever offered by Ampeg…and this one is 100% original.  Here’s a few things to look for:

  • Original GE speaker
  • The long steel bars that run vertically inside the amp connect the volume and tone knobs to the potentiometers at the base of the amp.
  • Bass clef graphic on the speaker screen.

You just never know what’s gonna pass thru Guitars on George.
